Alumni Survey

Suddenly sun streams through plum blossom fragrance-a mountain path
Matsuo Basho

In hopes that this message reaches you in the best of health and spirits.

With Daisosho sama's and Oiemoto sama's support and encouragement, the non-profit Urasenke Midorikai Alumni Association has been established. The association was formed by Midorikai alumni to express our great gratitude to Daisosho sama and Oiemoto sama for the opportunity to study Urasenke tea in Kyoto.

Worldwide there are over 500 Midorikai alumni, who are no doubt eager to lend their hands to their teachers' efforts locally and to meet other alumni. All students who have attended even one day at Midorikai are considered to be alumni.

The goal of UMAA is to support these alumni, and their international Tankokai teachers, by fostering and maintaining close connections with the Sen family, especially the younger generations, and by encouraging communication and the enjoyment of Chanoyu through its continued study and practice. Also the Midorikai Alumni website is a place where each area's activities can be shared. We are in the process of creating a new up to date website and hope to have it live in coming months.

We are hoping to find out from alumni what they would like to see the UMAA do in their area or internationally.

We have posted a questionnaire that may be filled out online at

We would very much appreciate your opinions on the questionnaire.. If you have any questions or suggestions, please send them to
